Causes Of Hair Loss

Usually your hair loss is caused by a combination of factors and the cause is different for everyone. For me personally I think that poor nutrition, bad hair care products and heredity all played a role. If you can nail down the reason for yourself then you are taking the first steps toward a solution. I am going to list the possible reason in rough order of probability.

Heredity, Testosterone and DHT

This is by far the most common cause of Baldness. The reality is that the testosterone that makes us men is the same thing that causes hair loss. Bummer!

Fortunately that is where the DHT blockers come into play. They stop the DHT which ultimately causes hair loss. The down side is that progress is slow and it is best to start early before your hair loss has become too severe.

Most hair loss products for men include a DHT blocker. If you start early with a DHT blocker then you can avoid much of your hair loss.

Check out this amusing cartoon explaining testosterone and DHT interactions. Funny chartoon explaining DHT.

Minoxidil is the most common DHT blocker. Research studies have shown that in about 80% of study participants, who use products containing Minoxodil effectively slow hair loss and, in some Minoxidil causes regrowth to occur. Probably the most well known is Rogaine, available at any drug store, in varieties for both men and women.

Most scientifically-produced products do have separate products for males and females, because, of course, hormones in men and women are different.

One product containing minoxidil is Provillus. The difference between Provillus and other similar products is that the makers have added Azelaic Acid, an ingredient which appears to enhance the follicle repair in both men and women.

Poor Nutrition

I am sorry to inform all you guys that Burger King and Taco Bell are not a recipe for thick full hair. The reality is that the chemicals, preservatives, fats and oils in fast food and processed food are terrible for your skin and hair. The more crap you and the worse your hair loss problem.

You should focus on whole natural foods. Eat out less and prepare food at home. Not out of the microwave. It also wouldn't hurt to eat a vegetable now and then. Your hair requires nutrition just like the rest of your body. Your hair is living cells and requires nourishment so feed your hair well.

Hair Care Products

Those cheap shampoos have probably taken their tole on your hair. I used the 99 cent bottles for years. Now I am paying the price. Also bleaching your hair and using other treatments can lead to hair loss. Tight brads or anythign that pulls at your hair can cause hair loss. Also excessive hat wearing can cause problems. Anything that interfears with your hair and scalps natural function is goignt o cause a problem. I once folishly used sun in to lighten my hair and lost a lot all at once. My scalp staged a protest!

Surfactants: People feel good when their shampoos lather up nicely. Lather, however, is just for psychological effect. Somehow we believe that the more lather a shampoo produces, the cleaner our hair must be getting. Hogwash! The ingredient that causes lather is call a surfactant and does not have cleaning properties. Other ingredients in shampoos actually do the cleaning. Surfactants are, however, pretty harsh, and, for someone who is experiencing more-than-normal hair loss, surfactants should be avoided. There are lots of shampoos out there without it – try some.

Stress and Hair Loss

We like to blame stress for everything. In the case of hair loss it is probably valid. The reality is that when your struggling hair is subjected to more stress your body reacts by sacrificing what it doesn't need. Hair is a luxury not a necessity in your body's opinion. Try to live a life that is healthy and balanced. Next time your wife nags you remind her that she is encouraging continued hair loss. This hasn't worked for me but try it! If you can figure out what is causing your hair loss then you can work toward a solution. So think about it it isn't that hard to nail down what the problem is in your case.
